To the student and parents of grades 7-12 of Overton Public School:
It is with great excitement that we continue our 1:1 iPad Program at Overton Public School. Once again this year we will be 1:1 with iPads in grades 7-12. This program will enhance the learning of our students by incorporating more 21st Century Skills into their classes and curriculum. There is one change for the 19-20 school year as we have removed the optional insurance fee of $30. Current repair costs do not make this fee necessary. Students will be responsible for any cost associated with damage to their iPad, including the cost of total replacement if necessary.
IPad check-out will be performed the same as the last couple of years. Students in Grades 8-12, will be able to receive their iPad during the following times:
Monday, August 5th from 10:00 – 2:00 PM in the LMC
Tuesday, August 6th from 10:00 – 2:00 PM in the LMC
Wednesday, August 7th from 3:00 – 6:30PM in the LMC
Thursday, August 8th from 10:00 – 2:00 PM in the LMC
You will need to have the aqua form, included with this letter, to receive your iPad. Students will not be given their iPad without these items at the time of check-out. Parents of students in Grades 8-12, do not need to be present during check-out.
We are asking students and parents of 7th graders to attend the following informational meeting:
Wednesday, August 7th from 6:30-7:30 PM in the LMC
At this meeting, the students will receive their iPads for the school year. We will go over the handbooks for the 1:1 program. We will discuss the many responsibilities of all involved at these meetings. It is required that both the student and a parent/guardian(s) be in attendance at this meeting to receive their iPad. Students will need their iPad, as all their textbooks will be on the iPad.
The management of the devices for the 19-20 school year will allow students, in grades 9-12, to download their own school appropriate apps to their device (with some restrictions). For this reason, each student must have an AppleID before they attend the meeting to receive their iPad. Grades 7 & 8 will be restricted from downloading their own apps, but will still need to have an AppleID so school apps can be downloaded to their iPad. If you do not have an AppleID, you will need to download iTunes to your home computer and then you will be prompted to create your AppleID. If you need assistance creating an AppleID, please come to your meeting 30 minutes early and we can help with this process. At the meeting, you will be provided with a list of free apps that will need to be downloaded before the first day of school. You will also receive instructions to download you textbooks for the school year.
Again we are very excited about the direction this program is taking our school. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at school (308) 987-2424.
Reminder: Parents for students in Grades 8-12 do not need to be in attendance during check-out. Parents of 7th graders must be in attendance at the meeting. I have included the form that will need to be signed before you will receive your iPad (please bring this signed to the meeting). If you would like to review the iPad handbook before the meeting dates, you can access this via the school website. Thank you for making every attempt to be in attendance. It is our hope that by providing these dates far in advance everyone will be able to make the necessary accommodations with their work schedules. If you are unable to attend on these times, you will need to email Mr. Christensen at chase.christensen@overtoneagles.org to set up a time to receive your iPad.
Yours in Education,
Mr. Brian Fleischman, Principal
Overton Public School
